Retouching

Our modern retouching methods will correct blemishes, soften harsh lines and lighten circles under the eyes. Please tell us if you want freckles softened, or a mole removed or left alone. However, extreme corrections of hair, clothing, teeth, or reflections in glasses are only made by special quotation of our airbrush artist at a rate of $40 per hour with a $20 minimum. You will be notified of the exact charge for your approval before any airbrush work is done.

Portrait prices

This price structure gives you the opportunity to add any additional portraits you require to your assortment, or create your own grouping. Wall portraiture 11X14 or larger is available in two professional finishes. Our recommendation for wall presentation is the Old Master Edition Canvas finish. This treatment permanently embeds each portrait into real canvas. This accentuates the color and achieves a true three-dimensional appearance that rivals that of old master paintings. Old Master Edition Canvas is the right choice for those that truly admire fine portraiture. Also available is our contemporary Luster finish. This is a protective coating applied to all our enlarged images that has ultraviolet light inhibiting properties. This extra care to attention and detail is why a Lamborn's portrait will give you the lasting enjoyment that you have come to expect since 1940. Our work always proudly carries a total satisfaction guarantee.

 Clothing Suggestions

For the classic head and shoulders style of portraiture and formal family groups always wear long sleeves. It is best to use solid colors; we have a variety of backdrops and sets available, so light or dark colors are no problem. All white, especially for children, is super on our white set. For family groups it is very important to coordinate your clothing for a pleasant effect. What you want to avoid is having any one person "jump" out of the portrait because they are out of sync with the rest of the group, such as one light outfit and the rest dark, or one formal with the rest casual. Work for balance, harmony, and color coordination. If you can't decide on an outfit, bring several with you to the session, and Fred will help you pick what will photograph best. Knits are always a good choice as they minimize wrinkles. If you have chosen our deluxe session be sure to bring a variety of outfits, at least four or five. Be creative! Anything you really like and are comfortable with will work.

Special locations: Natural colors such as greens, browns, navy blue or gold are very good outdoors. Definitely go with a casual outfit, such as sweater or slacks. For in-home portraiture your dress will depend on the room to be used for the session and where the finished portrait will hang in the home or office. In a formal living room, go with formal attire. In a den or family room, be more casual. For family home portraits we recommend some of each style. Be sure to include the family pets for home and outdoor portraits.

Make-Up

Your everyday makeup will look most natural for a portrait. Apply your eye shadow sparingly and with care. An extra coat of mascara on both upper and lower lashes will make them appear fuller, and the most important element of fine portraiture is the eyes. A light coat of lip gloss adds sparkle. Bring all
of your make-up with you, in case any minor modifications are needed. We have a spacious make-up counter provided in our changing rooms.

Glasses

Some lenses cause distortions that cannot be corrected and photo-grays do darken the eyes and cannot be corrected with retouching. One option is to borrow an empty pair of frames from your optician. If you wear glasses all the time, however, this could cause an unnatural appearance. The reflection the lenses often cause can usually be softened on your enlarged portraits. There is a minimal fee for artwork to eliminate reflections; we will provide an exact quote for this service, if you wish. The choice is yours; we will do our very best in either case.

Hair

Your normal style will look the most natural. A new haircut or style should be at least a week old so that freshly cut hair won't stand out. If you're not pleased with your hair the day of your appointment, we'll reschedule it; just call. Clean hair has a healthy appearance, but just-washed hair may appear frizzy. Check your hair carefully before your session for loose ends that stand out too prominently. Be careful that hair is trimmed out of the eyes, as the eyes are the most important feature of a fine portrait.

Shaving

Men should shave around an hour or so before their appointment, as a 5 0'clock shadow cannot be corrected with retouching. If you forget, just ask; we have razors and shaving cream in our restroom.
